Selling An Experience In The Form Of Peeler

Joe Ades has been described as the greatest salesman in New York City history. He has passed on, but his legacy lives on.

A peeler is a peeler until he pulls out his showmanship. During his three minutes pitch, people gathered to watch. From curiosity to awe, they can’t help but stayed, watched, and eventually buy from him.

At $5 a peeler, it’s not unusual to see him sell around 15-20 after every demostration. But he’s not selling a commodity. He’s selling an experience. People buy into his personality and promise.

“You don’t buy it because it’s cheap, you buy it because it’s good.”

That’s how good the old man was.
