As strange as it sounds, cleaning brings sanity to my otherwise anxiety-ridden mind. It calms my racing pulse and restores me to present.

“When cleaning the dishes, just clean the dishes”. Indeed. Being mindful is the trending practice everyone is advocating. Easy to say, hard to act.

I tried to bring this mindfulness to various aspects of my life – reading, watching shows, having conversations, and the likes. But the monkey mind always strays. Wanders around and never come back. And cleaning has been the only task that I can focus on.

I relish washing. Washing things with delight and purpose. A sink full of dishes? Give it to me! A basket filled with clothes? Here I come!

The reward of a clean slate isn’t too bad of a bonus, too.
